Fairfield, CT -
Sophomore Carisa Eye (Nesconset, NY) and senior Colleen Carney (Yorktown Heights, NY) scored two goals apiece to lead Sacred Heart (9-2, 2-0) to a 4-1 victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats (3-6, 0-1) on Friday afternoon in field hockey action at Campus Field. The Pioneers have now won six straight games and nine out of their last ten.
Defense controlled a big portion of the first half, but the Pioneers took a 1-0 advantage with 19:12 left when Eye blasted a shot from the left side of the net past Bobcat goalkeeper Jenna Grossman. The two NEC rivals would not score for the remainder of the first half.
Carney increased the Sacred Heart lead to 2-0 with 24:56 remaining in the game when she capitalized off a smooth give-and-go passing series between junior Leah Stoehr (Hummelstown, PA) and herself for her seventh goal of the season.
The Pioneer offensive attack wasn't finished yet. With 10:40 left in the contest, Eye struck once again for her 21st goal of the season when she received a great pass from junior mid-fielder Katie Bohren (Hopewell Junction, NY) for extra insurance.
Quinnipiac regained some momentum back when sophomore Jillian Carroll deposited a goal past Sacred Heart goaltender Ashley Del Greco (Merrimack, NH). It was the only shot the senior would allow past her as she recorded four saves.
Carney then iced the game when her shot found the back of the net courtesy of nice passes from freshman Erica Benn (Oakhurst, NJ) and junior Danielle Vasely (Hopewell Junction, NY) for her eighth score of the campaign.
The Pioneers will look to continue their winning streak against Saint Francis (PA) as they will face off on Sunday at Campus Field. Starting time is slated for 11am
