Brooklyn, NY -- First-team All-Northeast Conference selection Jacqui Jackson (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) tallied 17 kills as the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils advanced to the semifinals of the NEC tournament with a 3-0 (30-20, 30-17, 30-16) victory over Sacred Heart this morning at the Schwartz Center.
The Blue Devils outhit the Pioneers, .303 to .159, for the match and move on to face top-seeded Long Island University at 4:00 p.m.
Tied at 8-8 in the first game, Senior Chantelle Bowden (Chilliwack, British Columbia) notched three service aces during a four-point rally to give the Blue Devils a 12-8 advantage. For the match, Bowden registered a game-high five aces. A kill from NEC Setter of the Year Brynn Good (Surrey, British Columbia) nailed down the first game, 30-20.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a quick lead in game two, as a kill from Jackson pushed the CCSU lead to 16-9. Cali Cooper (Bloomington, IN), who hit an outstanding .500 for the match, recorded the game-winning kill to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead.
The third game of the match saw CCSU jump out to a quick 5-0 advantage behind two straight kills from Jackson. A service ace by Cooper gave the Blue Devils the victory.
Heather Brooks (Regina, Canada) led Sacred Heart with eight kills on .333 hitting.
