EDISON, N.J. – After picking up its second win of the season this past weekend, Sacred Heart University women's volleyball collected three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly awards on Tuesday afternoon.
Miliani Villarreal was named the Libero of the Week and
Ava Roodbol was tabbed the Setter of the Week.
Sacred Heart defeated NJIT in four sets in the final match of the Steel Classic Tournament. After dropping a hard-fought first set, the Pios cruised comfortable 25-18, 25-20 and 25-14 wins. SHU also went four sets against hosting Lehigh and three sets against Valpo at the event.
Villarreal led the Pios with 4.09 digs and 0.64 aces per set in three matches at the Steel Classic Tournament. The sophomore from Murrieta, Calif. tallied 13 digs in matches against Lehigh and Valparaiso. Villarreal then helped the Pios tally their second win of the season with 19 digs and a career-high five aces against NJIT. In her second season, Villarreal has won 10 Libero of the Week awards.
Roodbol averaged 9.64 assists per set at the tournament to collect her second Setter of the Week honor. Roodbol tallied 34 assists against Lehigh and 27 against Valpo to begin the event. She capped the weekend with 45 assists on the team's 65 kills in the victory over the Highlanders.
The Pioneers next head to Central Connecticut State on Wednesday, Sept. 17, for a 6 p.m. tilt.
