Final Stats

Fairfield, CT - Sophomore Stephanie Walker scored two goals and added an assist as Rider knocked off Sacred Heart 4-0 in field hockey action Sunday at Campus Field.

Walker, who came into the game tied for the team lead with seven goals, got the Broncs on the board early, firing a shot past Pioneer goalkeeper Ashley Del Greco (Merrimack, NH) 7 minutes into the game to give the Broncs the lead.

Rider would strike again with 10 minutes left in the first half. Walker fed freshman Diana Celebre a pass in the circle and Celebre put it in the net for her second goal of the year to give the Broncs a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Meghan Scwheers, who also had seven goals entering the game, scored her eighth on a pass from Tricia Crotty early in the second half. Walker would net her second goal of the game with 15 minutes to go. After a scramble in front of the Pioneer net Del Greco couldn't control a rebound, and Walker was there to finish off her ninth goal of the season.

The Pioneers were able to keep good pressure on the whole game, tallying 20 shots to the Broncs 21. Eleven Pioneers had shots, led by junior Colleen Carney (Yorktown Heights, NY) who had four. Senior Nicole Falco (Ocean, NJ) and sophomore Melissa Mazin (Putnam Valley, NY) also had three shots for Sacred Heart. But junior Krysta Bearish was too strong in goal for the Broncs, making nine saves to preserve the shutout.

The Pioneers (4-9, 2-2) have lost two straight games, finishing their home stand at 2-2. They will now hit the road for three straight games starting Friday at Quinnipiac. Game time is 3:30 pm.
