team fell to Holy Cross 4-0 in the championship round of the
Atlantic Hockey Tournament. The Crusaders took the lead at the 5:00
minute mark in capturing their second conference championship.
Andrew McKay put HC up for good at 5:06 of the opening frame as
he put a wrist shot on net and over the right shoulder of Sacred
Heart goaltender Kevin LaPointe
(Quebec, QC).
That lead grew to 2-0 in favor of the Crusaders when Jeff Dams
netted his 14th goal of the season and sent the Crusaders into the
locker room with what seemed to be an insurmountable lead.
The Pioneers found themselves down 4-0 in the second period on
goals from Dams and McKay, giving them two goasl each in the
contest. Dams 15th goal of the season was scored on the power
play.
The Pioneers tried to get on the board, but Tony Quesada was
there each time to come up with the save. Quesada would finish with
28 Saves for the shutout. Kevin LaPointe
turned in a 29 save effort for Sacred Heart.
Two members of the Sacred Heart squad were honored after the
game as senior assistan captain Konn Hawkes (Watrous,
SK) and freshman Pierre-Luc
O'Brien (Nicolet, QC) were named to the All Tournament
Team.
While the season ended on a down note there were a lot of
positives that the Pioneers can take away from this season as they
begin to look towards the 2004-05 campaign.
