Final Stats
BUFFALO, NY - The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team
had their seven game winning streak snapped after a 3-2 overtime
loss at Canisius on Friday night. It was the third overtime game
between the two teams this year.
After a scoreless opening period the Pioneers jumped out to a
1-0 lead at 4:46 of the second period when Peter Ferraro
netted his eighth goal of the season with the lone assist from Noel Henck.
Billy Irish-Baker answered with an unassisted goal for the
Griffs at 8:09 of the period to tie the game at 1-1.
Canisius then took their first lead of the game at 7:07 of the
third period on a power play goal from Michael Cohen. Josh Zavitz
and David Kasch assisted on Cohen's 10th goal of the season.
After taking their timeout SHU pulled goaltender Kevin LaPointe for
the extra attacked and the move paid off with 53-seconds remaining
in regulation when Marc-Andre
Fournier scored his 12th goal of the season from Bernie Chmiel.
The game then went into overtime where Irish-Baker scored his
second goal of the game to give the Griffs a 3-2 overtime win.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Tuesday night, February
24th, at 7:00 pm when they host Connecticut at the Milford Ice
Pavilion.
