MILFORD, CT (January 6, 2004) - The Sacred Heart University
men's ice hockey team fell to Bentley in a tough 3-2 loss. Jake
Plattner broke a 2-2 deadlock with 4:44 remaining in the game to
give the visiting Falcons their first Atlantic Hockey win of the
season.
Bentley took a 1-0 lead at 4:14 of the opening period with a
John Hooks goal that beat Pioneers goaltender Kevin LaPointe.
That lead grew to 2-0 with 1:11 remaining in the first period when
Brett Murphy added his third goal of the season.
After a scoreless second period Sacred Heart fought back to tie
the game on goals from Rocco Molinaro and
Konn Hawkes,
who scored just 0:57 apart. Hawkes also assisted on Molinaro's
goal, which was scored on a two-man advantage. Hawkes goal was also
scored on the power play.
Just moments later the Falcons regained the lead for good when
Plattner scored the game-winning goal at 15:16 of the final period,
with assists to Brendan McCartin and Paul Markarian.
The Pioneers pulled LaPointe with 1:02 remaining in the game for
the extra attacker, but were unable to get the game-tying goal they
needed.
Simon St. Pierre stopped 25 shots in recording his third win of
the season while LaPointe made 23 saves in taking the loss.
Sacred Heart will be back in action when they travel to Maine to
take on the #5 Black Bears on Saturday, January 10. the opening
face-off is at 7:00 pm in Orono, ME.
