Final Stats
MILFORD, CT (January 17, 2004) - The Sacred Heart University
men's ice hockey team lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Canisius
5-4 on Saturday evening at the Milford Ice Pavilion. Rob Martin
scored the game-winning goal with 1:02 remaining in the extra
frame.
Canisius took the lead at the 10-minute mark of the first period
when Ryan Corcoran got the Griffs on the board. The Pioneers tied
the game when Garrett Larson
scored at 18:23 of the opening period.
Sacred Heart took a 3-1 lead in the second period on goals from
Rocco Molinao and Mike Reagan, who
scored just 40-seconds apart.
Canisius battled back to tie the game with two goals from Jaymie
Harrington, who scored his first goal while on the power play and
his second goal while the Griffs were shorthanded.
Canisius then regained the lead at 17:49 of the third period
when Tim Sonigan scored for the Griffs.
The Pioneers then tied the game 48-seconds later with an
unassisted goal from Marc-Andre
Fournier, his third goal of the series to tie the game at
4-4.
The two teams then played to a tie for the remainder of
regulation and once again went to overtime where Martin scored the
game-winner and extended Canisius' unbeaten streak to six
games.
Sacred Heart will return to action on Friday night when they
travel to Union for a 7:00 pm game. The Pioneers will play again
the following night when they travel to RPI for a 7:00pm
contest.
