MILFORD, CT (February 28, 2003) - Senior goalie Eddy Ferhi (Charenton,
France) made 21 saves, registering his third shutout of the season,
to lead the Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team to a 2-0 win over
visiting Army. The win moved the Pioneers into third place in the
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings with three games to
play. The top four teams get home ice advantage in the quarterfinal
round of the MAAC playoffs.
Freshman Bernie Chmiel
(Pittsburgh, PA) got the only goal the Pioneers would need at 16:41
of the first period, from senior Martin Paquet (Ste.
Catherine, QUE) and sophomore Garrett Larson
(Rycroft, AB).
At 13:04 in the second period senior Konn Hawkes (Watrous,
SK) netted his first goal of the season, assisted by fellow seniors
Michael
Forsland (Anchorage, AK) and Richard Naumann
(Boerne, TX). The third period remained scoreless, despite several
chances for both sides.
Black Knight goalie Brad Roberts made 16 saves in the
contest.
The Pioneers will travel to West Point, NY Saturday night for a
rematch with the Black Knights at Tate Rink at 7 pm.
