WORCESTER, MA (January 7, 2003) - The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team lost to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Holy Cross, 7-1 on the road. Junior Chuck Metcalfe (Edmonton, AB) tallied the Pioneers lone goal at 0:13 in the second period.

Holy Cross opened the scoring at 5:34 in the first period and steamrolled the Pioneers to a 4-0 lead after one. The Crusaders had a power play goal from Pierre Nepert-Frenette, assisted by Tim Corskren and Blair Bartlett to open the scoring. Jonas Tomiuk netted the eventual game-winner at 11:35 in the first from Tyler McGregor and Coskren. Coskren then tallied one of his own at 17:48, and Andrew McKay netted the final of the period at 19:03, assisted by Greg Kealey and Bartlett.

Metcalfe's tally opened the second period scoring, with assists going to junior Marc-Andre Fournier (St. Nicholas, QUE) and sophomore Garrett Larson (Rycroft, AB). Tomiuk netted his second of the game at on the power play at 8:03 from Tony Coskren and Jeff Dams. Crusader captain Brandon Doria closed out the period with a short-handed unassisted tally at 11:04.

Dams scored the third period's only goal at 6:16, assisted by Nepert-Frenette and Doria.

Pioneer sophomore goaltender Kevin LaPointe (Quebec City, QUE) made 32 saves. Holy Cross goaltender Matt Norton played the majority of the game with 56:03 minutes and recorded 25 saves earning the win, while Peter Bartline came in with just under four minutes to go.

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, January 14 as they take on MAAC opponent Holy Cross at the Milford Ice Pavilion at 7:00 pm.
