MEN'S ICE HOCKEY DROPS WEEKEND SERIES TO BENTLEY WITH 4-3 LOSS

WATERTOWN, MA (January 4, 2003) - The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team lost to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Bentley, 4-3 on the road. Freshman Andrew Billinghurst (Fort Collins, CO) scored his first goal as a Pioneer at 14:03 in the first period.

Bentley opened the scoring at 1:05 in the first period with a power play goal by Ryan Lessnau, assisted by Brett Murphy. Joe Lovell tallied the second of the game at 10:25 from Paul Markarian and Seth Vinocur. Billinghurst's tally from seniors Chris Affinati (Highland Park, IL) and Martin Paquet (St. Catherine, QUE) brought the Pioneers within one to start off the second period.

At 5:23 in the second, Lovell netted his second of the game from Ryan Mayhew and Markarian to extend the Falcons lead. Paquet scored at 17:44 assisted by seniors Nick Nutcher (Hamden, CT) and Affinati to bring the score to 3-2.

Bentley's Kevin Osborne netted the eventual game-winner at 6:29 assisted by Troy Wiebler. Sophomore Garrett Larson (Rycroft, AB) closed out the scoring with a power play tally from freshman Bernie Chmiel (Pittsburgh, PA) and senior Les Hrapchak (Wakaw, SK).

Pioneer senior goaltender Eddy Ferhi (Charenton, France) made 22 saves. Bentley goaltender Simon St. Pierre recorded 30 saves in the contest.

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, January 7 as they take on MAAC opponent Holy Cross on the road at 7:00 pm.
