MILFORD, CT (January 3, 2003) - The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team lost to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Bentley, 2-1 at home. Bentley's Josh Thompson netted the game-winner at 8:52 in the second period.
Bentley opened the scoring at 11:26 in the first period with a power play goal by junior Tim Calabro. Ryan Lessnau and Joe Lovell were credited with the assists. Thompson's second period tally brought the Falcons ahead by two heading into the third period.
The Pioneers attempted a comeback with a goal from junior Marc-Andre Fournier (St. Nicholas, QUE) at 7:22, assisted by junior Chuck Metcalfe (Edmonton, AB) and senior Richard Naumann (Boerne, TX) to close out the scoring.
Pioneer senior goaltender Eddy Ferhi (Charenton, France) made 29 saves. Bentley goaltender Simon St. Pierre recorded 27 saves in the contest.
The Pioneers return to action tomorrow night, January 4, with the rematch against Bentley in Massachusetts.
