BRIDGEPORT, CT (November 15, 2002) - The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent UConn, 6-3, at the MAAC Challenge at Harbor Yard Arena. Leading the way for the Pioneers was junior Marc-Andre Fournier (St. Nicholas, QUE) with two goals and an assist.

Fournier opened the scoring just 23 seconds into the game assists by senior Les Hrapchak (Wakaw, SK) and junior Chuck Metcalfe (Edmonton, AB). Fournier followed up with another goal at 10:59, assisted by freshman Rocco Molinaro (Dearborn, MI) and senior Martin Paquet (St. Catherine, QUE). UConn close out the period with a goal by Chris Uber at 11:29.

The second period saw both teams score one goal apiece. The Pioneers goal was scored by sophomore Ryan Bremner (Williams Lake, BC), and assisted by Fournier and Metcalfe at 13:05.

Sacred Heart dominated the third period scoring with three goals. Sophomore Barclay Folk (Westbank, BC) scored the eventual game-winner at 1:39 with assists by junior Mike Reagan (Flin Flon, MB) and senior Michael Forsland (Anchorage, AK). Molinaro scored at 3:10 to bring the score to 5-2 assisted by senior Nick Nutcher (Hamden, CT). Paquet closed the scoring for the Pioneers at 12:51, assisted by sophomore Garrett Larson (Rycroft, AB) and senior Konn Hawkes (Watrous, SK). UConn scored the final goal of the game at 18:32 by Michael Hoffman.

Pioneer senior goaltender Eddy Ferhi (Charenton, France) earned the win, making 22 saves. UConn goaltender Artie Imbriano recorded 27 saves in the contest.

The Pioneers return to action tomorrow evening, November 12, as they travel to UConn for the rematch at 7:30 pm.
