Michelle Reed

Michelle Reed was announced as Sacred Heart first women's rugby head coach in the spring of 2015 as the program was going to begin varsity play that fall.

A native of Zion, Ill., Reed earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Eastern Illinois in 2000 and attained her Master of Science in Physical Education from her alma mater in 2002.

Coaching and Career Accomplishments

  • Coached Emily Mignogni to become the program's first NCAA All-American as a member of the first ever rugby NCAA All-America Class in 2016
  • Reed comes to SHU after a four-year stint as an assistant coach for the Quinnipiac University women’s rugby team. She helped found the Bobcats Division I rugby program, guiding them to the postseason in three of their first four years in existence, including national tournament round of four appearances in 2012 and 2014
  • A graduate of Eastern Illinois, Reed has been associated with the game of rugby in a coaching capacity since 2002, when she served as an assistant coach at her alma mater.  She spent 2004-06 as a coach with the Waubonsie Valley High School girls rugby team
  • Reed has extensive experience in college athletics, serving as Assistant Athletics Director of Academic Services from October 2012-January 2014 at Quinnipiac.  In that role she oversaw the development of 400 student-athletes, scheduled professional speakers and assisted in organizing the Life Skills program and community service
  • Served as an academic coordinator for the Office of Student-Athlete Academic Support Services at Northern Illinois University. In that role she managed academic progress and eligibility for eight intercollegiate teams and within a year was promoted to senior academic coordinator
  • In 2008 Reed became a police officer and paramedic at Northern Illinois, earning Officer of the Year in 2008 and the Life-Saving Awards in 2009 and 2010.
