Matthew McGreevy

Matt McGreevy, a former two-sport Sacred Heart varsity athlete, has led Pioneer teams to eight Northeast Conference Golf Championships since he took over as the head coach of both teams since 2007.

McGreevy led the men’s team to titles in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2022, while the women have captured crowns in 2017, 2022, 2023 and 2024. Each of those NEC championships have resulted in NCAA Tournament appearances.

The former teaching professional at Great River Golf Club - SHU’s home course – has been conference coach of the year eight times. He was 2011 and 2022 NEC Men’s Coach of the Year, while McGreevy won that on the women’s side in 2009, 2016, 2017, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

His Pio women have garnered four conference player of the year honors and one rookie accolade. The men have earned seven MVP awards and had six rookie of the year picks under their current head coach.

McGreevy, a 1998 graduate of Sacred Heart, played quarterback for the Pioneers’ football team and held the school record for touchdown passes in a game when he tossed four against Curry College in 1995. He was also a standout goalie for SHU lacrosse.

After graduation, McGreevy picked up golf and learned it well enough to become a teaching professional. He heads the instruction of the junior programs at Great River.
