Betsy Harvey

Betsy Harvey returned to her alma mater in the fall of 2017 as a Sacred Heart assistant softball coach and is entering her eighth campaign in the dugout in 2025.

A four-year starter at second base for the Pioneers between 2006-09, Harvey has spent her coaching tenure assisting the head coach in organizing, planning, and coaching all practices and games. She has also been committed to skill instruction and student-athlete development both on and off the field and providing specific instruction of both offense and defense.

Under Harvey’s guidance, the Pioneers have made four appearances in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament, including being the No. 3 seed in last season’s event. She has also helped numerous Pioneers collect postseason honors. This list includes one of the greatest offensive players in the team’s history, Alyssa Gonzalez, who is the first player in program history to hit 50 career home runs and was a two-time All-Region selection and the 2021 NEC Player of the Year.

Prior to returning to SHU, Harvey was the head varsity coach at Farmington High School from 2010-17 as well as the head coach of the CT Eliminators 16U and 18U Gold teams from 2011-14.

As a player, Harvey began her career as a Pioneer in the fall of 2005, leading the team in hitting her rookie season with a .294 batting average. In 2009, she was named the Co-Captain of the Pioneers and, helped the team earn their first NEC Championship at the Division 1 level, and was named to the NEC All-Tournament Team. The Pioneers clinched the University’s first-ever win in an NCAA Division 1 Regional, as they defeated Cornell by a final score of 3-1 on May 16, 2009. Harvey scored the program's first-ever run in a DI regional when she scored against No. 3 Washington College in the team's opener.

Before playing at Sacred Heart, she was a four-year varsity starter at Farmington High School and served as a co-captain in her junior and senior years.
