Rob Dombrowski is the
first Director of Hockey Performance at Sacred Heart University. He began in that position in September of 2022.
Dombrowski returned to his alma mater to be responsible for the oversight and development of all aspects of physical performance for both the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams including speed, power and strength development, conditioning, nutrition, recovery, fatigue monitoring and sport science.
Dombrowksi is tasked with integrating a cutting-edge sports performance program with the hockey teams. Under his leadership, a comprehensive performance-based model was developed, focusing on athletic development, movement quality, and injury reduction strategies.
Prior to joining SHU, Dombrowski served as the Director of Performance at Prentiss Hockey Performance, one of the leading sports performance facilities in the country. During his nine-year tenure, he oversaw the physical development and performance testing of professional, collegiate, and elite youth athletes.
His professional expertise includes training athletes from the NHL, AHL, NFL, MLB, MLL, and various European hockey and soccer teams. While at PHP, Dombrowski also spearheaded the program design and long-term physical development for a majority of the clientele. His other responsibilities included oversight of the training curriculum, performance analytics, staff onboarding and development, and the co-creation of the Hockey Hip Injury Prevention online training program.
Dombrowski is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He is also a Functional Range Assessment and Functional Range Conditioning practitioner, specializing in enhancing movement capability, mobility development, and injury reduction.
Dombrowski received his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Sacred Heart University in 2013. He resides in Fairfield with his wife, Jessica, and their two children, Marlowe and Grace.
