Colin Bemis enters his fourth year at Sacred Heart University as an Athletic Trainer. He spent his first two years on staff as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer before moving into a full-time role. Currently his primary sport responsibilities are our men’s basketball and men’s and women’s cross-country teams. Additionally, he has worked with our men’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, football, women’s rowing, women’s wrestling and men’s and women’s track and field teams here at SHU. He also serves as an Approved Clinical Instructor for the University’s graduate Athletic Training education program, and is an Adjunct Professor in the undergraduate Exercise Science program.
Bemis is a Sacred Heart alum, where he earned his master’s degree with honors in Exercise Science and Nutrition with an emphasis in Sports Science. He wrote his graduate thesis on “The Relationship Between Foot Posture and Drop-Jump Landing Mechanics”. While completing his graduate work, Bemis was awarded the Silver Medal of Excellence. Prior to his graduate studies, Bemis graduated summa cum laude with his bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine from Quinnipiac University. During his four years at Quinnipiac, he gained a variety of experiences working with their athletic teams, as well as with Yale University’s men’s basketball team, Northwestern University’s football team and the University of Michigan’s football team.
Colin is a BOC certified Athletic Trainer and maintains a Connecticut state Athletic Training license. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Alpha Eta Society, the national honor society for the allied health professions.
Originally from Red Hook, N.Y., he is excited to continue working with the great staff and student athletes here at Sacred Heart.
