While at Doherty Memorial High School, Matt played varsity football all four years. He was a Axe Award winner, Central Mass All-Star, Telegram & Gazette All-Star and Thanksgiving Day MVP.  Received the Ralph Raymond award and the Austin Football award for "outstanding qualities of character, desire, and intensity".
