Home Sweet Home! Pios Cruise In Home Opener

Three First Half Goals Fuel Pioneers to First Win

FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team played a match on Friday evening at Park Ave Field, winning 3-1 versus non-conference opponent Yale University.

How it Happened: 
The Pioneers returned home to Park Ave Field for the first time this season after dropping their first two road matches, turning things around with a dominant victory.

It was all Pios in the first half. In the 19th minute, senior Captain David Garcia Gallego had his first goal at home this season for the opening score. Fast forward to the 43rd minute, it was Daniel Losfablos to earn the second goal of the night. Then, not even 90 seconds later, Koke Gracia Martinez made it 3-0 Sacred Heart in only one half of action. Garcia Gallego had his second assist of the night on that goal.

Sacred Heart had 12 shots to the Bulldogs' eight with the Pios leading shots on goal seven to four.

Yale didn't go down without a fight. In the 53rd minute, it was Sablian Roy to give the Bulldogs their first and only goal of the evening.

Of Note: 

  • Keeper Luca Marinelli earned his first win of the 2025 campaign and had three saves.  

  • As a team, the Pioneers managed nine corner kick opportunities to Yale's one.
