How it Happened
It was a picture-perfect day for baseball, and the Pioneers made the most of it with standout pitching and timely hitting.
After five scoreless innings to open the game, Sacred Heart broke through in the sixth.
Dante D'Amore led off the frame with a sharp double down the left field line, later advancing to third. With one out,
Dave Yorke lifted a deep sacrifice fly to bring D'Amore home and give SHU a 1-0 lead.
The Pios added some insurance in the seventh. With one away,
Alex Ungar ripped a double to right-center, moving
Joe Cilea to third. Then, with two outs, D'Amore put the ball in play with a slow roller to third. The throw to first sailed wide, allowing both Cilea and Ungar to score and stretch the lead to 3-0.
On the bump,
Ryan Parker turned in an inpressive performance. The right-hander went a season-high seven innings, allowing just four hits while striking out three to earn one of his strongest outings of the year.
