Rowing Celebrates Senior Day with Sweep of Drake and Canisius

SHU took first in all four races

SHELTON, Conn.—The Sacred Heart University women's rowing team had a successful day of racing on Saturday, hosting Drake and Canisius. The Pioneers took first place in all four races as the team celebrated its graduating class for senior day. 

The V4 races opened the competition. The Pioneers 2V4 and 3V4 took the first two spots in the opening race clocking 7:25.7 and 7:44.7 times, respectively. Sacred Heart's 1V4 finished in 7:35.2 for another first-place spot for the hosts.

The Pios had a pair of boats in the 2nd Varsity 8 as SHU's 2V8 took first at 6:50.6. Canisius followed behind at 6:59.7, Drake took third at 7:14.2, and Sacred Heart's 3V8 was fourth with a time of 7:21.6. 

The 1V8 race closed out the day, and the Pioneers secured another top finish. SHU clocked a time of 6:51.0 for first, followed by Canisius in second at 6:57.1 and Drake in third at 7:13.2. 

There was 5 mph S tailwind with decreasing current for each race throughout the morning. The current reversed for the V8 after the tide change.

Sacred Heart will be home once more before the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships. The Pioneers will host Fairfield University next Sunday, May 4 to wrap up the regular season.
