FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University softball team fell in both ends of a home doubleheader against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Marist on Friday afternoon at Pioneer Park. SHU fell 5-0 in the opener and 12-0 in the nightcap.

The start of the first game belonged to the starting pitchers as the bout went three innings without seeing a run.
Sam Kowalski was cruising through three, not allowing a hit until the fourth frame.
Unfortunately for SHU, the high-powered Marist offense came alive in the fourth. The Red Foxes strung together four runs on three hits to take a 4-0 lead after four.
Marist added another run in the top of the fifth to take a 5-0 advantage, which ended up standing as the final score.
SHU finished the game with three hits to Marist's five.

Sam Kowalski started the opener, going 4.2 innings with five strikeouts.
Emily Heath closed out the final 2.1 and did not give up a run.

Of Note:
The Red Foxes burst out of the gates to start game two, putting six on the scoreboard in the first inning. Marist tallied four hits with one SHU error proving costly as four of the six runs were unearned.
Two scoreless innings followed before Marist tacked another run on in the fourth to make it a 7-0 game.
Marist iced the bout with five more runs in the top of the seventh to secure a 12-0 victory.

Heath,
Carah Sweet and
Genevieve Gleason split pitching responsibilities for SHU. Heath started and went 1.0 inning, while Sweet and Gleason each tossed 3.0 frames.
