RADFORD, Va. – The Sacred Heart University softball team suffered a pair of losses in a road doubleheader at Radford on Tuesday to bring an end to its Southern trip this past week. The Highlanders took the first game by an 8-0 final score and the second by a 6-0 margin.

The Highlanders controlled the action in game one, claiming an 8-0 win in six innings. Radford scored a run in all six innings, with two in the first and sixth frames.
SHU finished the opener with one hit, as
Charlene Davis tallied an infield single to the pitcher in the top of the fifth.
Sam Kowalski and
Carah Sweet combined to throw all six innings for the Pios. Kowalski allowed two earned over 4.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts, while Sweet went 1.2 with a strikeout.

The start of the nightcap was a true pitchers' battle, as both hurlers did not allow a run over the first 4.5 innings while giving up a combined six hits.
The Highlanders broke onto the scoreboard first in the bottom of the fifth, plating three runs on two hits and an error.
Three more runs in the bottom of the sixth sealed the game for Radford, as the home team secured the sweep with a 6-0 victory.
Emily Heath pitched all 6.0 innings for SHU in game two this afternoon, giving up four earned. The junior cruised through the first four frames, spreading out two hits over that stretch.
