FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University softball team earned a 1-0 victory in the first game of its doubleheader against Stony Brook on Tuesday afternoon at Pioneer Park, splitting the twin bill with an 8-0 loss in game two.
Carah Sweet threw a gem in the opener with her first complete-game shutout, while
Morgan Teodosio's homer was the game's lone run.

The pitchers controlled the action in the opener, as the two offenses combined for one run on six hits over 7.0 innings. Sweet tallied her first complete-game shutout in the win, limiting the Seawolves to four hits with four strikeouts. With the victory, the first year is 3-1 on the season, winning two straight.
On offense, Teodosio's solo home run in the fifth proved to be the difference in the pitchers' duel. The senior outfielder turned on the third pitch of her at-bat against Crimson Rice, sending the ball straight out to left field to break up the no-hitter. Teodosio has three home runs on the season, her first collegiate campaign with more than one long ball.

The Seawolves opened game two with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Stony Brook strung together three hits in the inning, with both runs coming on a two-out double.
SBU added another run in the second and took a commanding 8-0 lead in the third. The Seawolves tallied five runs on three hits in the third, with two being unearned.
The Pioneers finished the nightcap with a pair of hits.
Jess Brown and
Elle Leckrone each had a single. Leckrone tallied a hit in 12 of her last 13 games, as her 11-game hit streak ended in game one.
Emily Heath and
Sam Kowalski commanded the circle for SHU, with Heath going 2.2 innings and Kowalski 2.1.
