FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's volleyball team defeated non-conference opponent, FDU, 3-1 on Saturday night.
Jaron Popp led the Pioneers with 16 kills.

How it Happened:
The first set favored the Pioneers. After being tied up at six, the Pioneers secured a 7-2 run including a pair of kills from
Petr Beranek. The Pios continued to dominate the first set not allowing the Knights to come within three points the remainder of the set winning 25-19. SHU's arms were hot outhitting FDU .367 to .107.
FDU took set two in comeback fashion. The teams battled through back-and forth play the entirety of the set. SHU had a 22-20 lead but a SHU error and back-to-back kills from Jamal Ellis Carballo from FDU secured the set, 25-22.
SHU dominated the third set getting an early ten-run lead that the Knights were unable to answer as they took the set 25-13. The Pios secured five blocks and forced 11 FDU attack errors as they hit in the negatives.
The Pioneers dominated on defense with 22 block assists with three solo blocks.
Ken Naples tallied a season high of eight block assists leading the Pios.
SHU returns to action Friday, March 21, at Merrimack at 7 p.m.
