Men's Basketball Hosts Rider on Thursday

SHU will play second straight home game

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— After a thrilling game-winning shot to secure its third straight victory on Sunday, the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team will play its second consecutive home game on Thursday, February 6, at 7 pm, hosting Rider in the Pitt Center.

OPENING TIP

  • Sacred Heart and Rider meet on Thursday for the first and only time this season, but the third time in series history.
  • SHU has won its last three games, two on the road in Western New York and most recently at home against Manhattan on Sunday, 74-72. 
  • Rider is coming off a home loss to Merrimack, 66-64, from Sunday. 
  • In the Pios victory over Manhattan, Anquan Hill led SHU with a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double. Nyle Ralph-Beyer added 16 points, Tanner Thomas had 12, and Mekhi Conner came in clutch with a game-winning three-pointer. He also had a game-high 14 assists.
  • Three Pioneers are averaging double figures: Thomas (15.3), Hill (12.3), and Amiri Stewart (11.8). 
  • Bryce Johnson and Thomas are tied for the team lead in rebounds with 5.8 per game, followed by Hill (5.0). 
  • Conner is 24th in the nation with 130 assists this season and is 18th in assists per game with 6.2. 
  • Sacred Heart's 9.7 three-pointers per game is 35th in the nation, and its 3-point shooting percentage is 47th in DI at 37.09. 
  • Thomas was named to the All-MAAC preseason third team. 
  • This year is Sacred Heart's first season as a full-time member of the MAAC.
  • The Pioneers have 10 new players on the team. 
  • Head Coach Anthony Latina is in his 12th season as head coach and 20th year overall with the Pioneers.

  • With the game tied with 18 seconds on the clock, Mekhi Conner knocked down a game-winning three-pointer to secure a home win as the Pios defeated Manhattan, 74-72.
  • Anquan Hill tallied his second double-double, scoring a career-high 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Nyle Ralph-Beyer (16) and Tanner Thomas (12) all scored double in the win.
  • Head Coach Anthony Latina picked up his 150th career win.
  • Sacred Heart made 13 three-pointers, tied for the second most this season.
  • Hill shot 75% (9-12) from the field and 66% (4-6) from behind the arc for his career-high 24 points. Ralph-Beyer was 4-of-6 from three-point range.
  • Conner tallied a game-high 14 assists, his second game this season with double-digit helpers.
  • Griffin Barrouk grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in the victory.

ABOUT RIDER     

  • Rider is 8-14 overall and 4-7 in MAAC play. 
  • The Broncs are coming off two straight home games, beating Saint Peter's, 67-64 on Friday and then falling to Merrimack, 66-64 on Sunday. 
  • Three players are averaging double figures. T.J. Weeks Jr. (13.3) Jay Alvarez (12.2), and Tariq Ingraham (10.5).
  • Ingraham is also the team leader in rebounds (6.7), followed by Weeks Jr. (4.9) and Alvarez (4.8). 
  • SHU and Rider meet for their only matchup against each other this season.
