SHU Game Notes
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -
Hunter Sansbury is the active career leader in all of Division I hockey with 297 blocked shots. Nobody in the history of Sacred Heart hockey has put their body on the line as much as this senior two-time captain.
Â
Sansbury, a blueliner from Lomita, Calif., is one of nine Pioneer players preparing for his final collegiate regular season game on Saturday at 6 p.m. against Bentley. Those fourth and fifth-year skaters will be honored before and after the contest as part of Senior Day at Martire Family Arena.
Â
The Pios clinched a bye in the first round of the AHA playoffs before they skated Tuesday night at AIC. Captain John Jaworksi's late game-winner against the Yellowjackets gave his squad quarterfinal home ice, so Sacred Heart has the "when" and "where" of its playoff beginnings. However, the opponent has yet to be determined. Saturday's game with the Falcons determines if the Pioneers are the No. 2, 3 or 4 seed in the conference tournament.
Â
SHU (18-10-5), with its highest point total (50) since 2019-20, takes on a Bentley team that enters its Thursday night contest with Holy Cross two points behind the Pios. The Falcons (17-13-2), coming off a split with Canisius, had their win streak end at four games.
