Men's Basketball Hosts Quinnipiac on Friday on ESPNU

The Pios have won five straight heading into Friday

FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Fresh off its fifth straight victory and first ever over Fairfield on Saturday, the Sacred Heart University men's basketball returns home to take on Quinnipiac in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on Friday, February 14 at 7:00 pm. The Pioneers and Bobcats meet for the second time this season, facing off nationally on ESPNU.

Opening Tip:
  • Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac meet for the 66th time in series history and the second time this season. The series dates back to the 1965-66 season when both teams were DII. Quinnipiac defeated SHU 83-73 earlier this season. 
  • SHU is on a five-game win streak, its longest since Feb. 2017.
  • The Pioneers are coming off a thrilling 77-71 victory over Fairfield on Saturday, their first win over the Stags in program history. 
  • Quinnipiac is coming off a 76-75 home loss to Niagara on Saturday.

  • Thomas was named to the All-MAAC preseason third team. 
  • This year is Sacred Heart's first season as a full-time member of the MAAC.
  • The Pioneers have 10 new players on the team. 
  • Head Coach Anthony Latina is in his 12th season as head coach and 20th year overall with the Pioneers.

  • Sacred Heart defeated Fairfield for the first time on Saturday night, 77-71.
  • The Pioneers are in the midst of a five-game win streak, the longest since February 2017.
  • Nyle Ralph-Beyer and Mekhi Conner both scored 20 points apiece. Amiri Stewart had 17 points, and Tanner Thomas tallied his second consecutive double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Sacred Heart shot 45% (27-60) from the field and 30.3% (10-33) from behind the arc.
  • After a 65-65 tie with 3:22 left in the game, Ralph-Beyer and Conner hit back-to-back triples at 2:19 and the dagger with 44 seconds left to play to put the game out of reach for the Stags ultimately.
