FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell 3-1 to crosstown rival Fairfield in NEC action on Friday afternoon at University Field.

Fairfield struck quickly with two goals in the opening five minutes and added a third midway through the second quarter to build a 3-0 lead.
Sacred Heart answered late in the first half as Crandall finished off a feed from DeAngelo to cut the deficit to 3-1, heading into halftime with her first collegiate goal.
The Pioneers outshot Fairfield 3-1 in the final period but could not find the back of the cage. Cooper posted seven saves in goal, stopping at least one shot in every quarter.
Fairfield held a 19-6 advantage in total shots and earned seven penalty corners to SHU's one, but the Pioneer defense blanked the Stags in the second half.
