HAMDEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's rugby team tallied trys from five different players to roll to a 27-12 win over Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon in Hamden, Conn.
After the Bobcats opened the scoring in the 13th minute, SHU tied the score at 5-5 by the 20th minute.
Maria-Jean Paulino recorded the try to even the score.
Four minutes later
Reese Torticill made it 10-5 Pioneers before
Carrie Coyer-Westerberg crossed the try line in the 28th minute to build a 15-5 SHU advantage by the end of the first half.
Torticill continued SHU's run with a try to open the second half, hitting the conversion to make it 22-5 in the 44th minute.
QU tallied the next try, but a
Julia Arnone score in the 80th minute ice a 27-12 win for the Pioneers in National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) play.
SHU has beaten Quinnipiac in 15's play in back-to-back seasons after never defeating them before 2024.
The Pioneers are slated to close out the 15's season with a home match against LIU on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m.
