How it Happened:
- This matchup was a true offensive battle. After just one period, the two teams combined for 47 total shots, with 27 of them landing on goal.
- Both squads traded chances early, going shot-for-shot until the Skyhawks finally broke through late in the first to take a 1-0 lead.
- The second period followed a similar script, as Sacred Heart continued to apply relentless pressure. The Pioneers outshot Stonehill 22-18 in the period and generated several high-quality opportunities. In the final six seconds, SHU fired three consecutive shots on target, but strong goaltending from the Skyhawks kept them off the board and preserved the one-goal advantage heading into the third.
- The third period brought several chances for the Pioneers. After multiple penalties, the Pioneers were on a power play for almost four minutes. Stonehill's defense stood tall and killed each penalty that came their way.
- With about seven minutes to go in the third period, the Skyhawks found the back of the net again to double their lead.
- This game looked all but over until Shae Carroll scored with just 70 seconds to go to cut the lead to one. Less than 30 seconds later, senior captain, Olivia LaRoche found the back of the net to tie the game at two and force overtime.
- The Pioneers carried all the momentum into the extra frame, generating multiple shots on goal within the first two minutes. On the defensive end, Mia Wendell put on a clinic in net, keeping SHU alive with several key saves. However, in the closing moments of overtime, Stonehill found the back of the net to take home the win.
