Edison, N.J. – Following a split in conference play over the weekend, a pair of Sacred Heart women's volleyball players added to their weekly accolades tally with sophomore Miliani Villarreal earning Libero of the Week and first year outside hitter Ryleigh Short securing Rookie of the Week accolades.
Villarreal secured her third weekly honor this season after pacing the defensive efforts amassing 47 digs for an average of 5.88 per set over the weekend. In addition to her defensive efforts, she also added 13 assists across the two matches. Villarreal saw her high for the week come in the four-set win over Marist where she finished with 28 digs, her second highest single match total of the season.
The Rookie of the Week distinction for Short is her second of the season and the first for the first year outside hitter since the opening weekend of the season. The Canyon Lake, Calif. averaged a double double with 36 kills and 22 digs combined across the two matches. She opened up the weekend with 19 kills, one shy of her career-high, with 13 digs and three blocks against Siena and followed that with 17 kills, nine digs and a trio of blocks against Marist.
Villarreal, Short and the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team will conclude a four-match homestand with a pair of matches this weekend, beginning with a Friday night visit from the Manhattan Jaspers. The evening conference battle is set for a 7:00 p.m. first serve.
