FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The unbeaten streak has ended at five games.
The first-place Sacred Heart Men's Hockey Team put 29 shots on net, hit the pipe twice and got 33 saves from rookie goaltender
Ajeet Gundarah in a 3-0 loss to Air Force in front of a big crowd at Martire Family Arena.
The Pios, who posted a victory over the Cadets by the same score last night, got a dozen saves in the first and second frames from their AHA Goalie of the Month for December to keep them in this contest. Air Force had the first six shots on target made it 1-0 midway through the first period on its ninth shot.
SHU, which is home next weekend to face No. 16 Cornell in a pair of non-league tilts, was outshot in the first two periods but pumped 15 on Air Force goalie Guy Blessing (29 saves) in the third. However, the visitors found the net 2:49 in and then added an empty netter in the closing minutes.
"We weren't skating the whole night," said Sacred Heart head coach
CJ Marottolo, whose squad entered the game with a 4-0-1 mark over the last five outings. "Air Force had more intensity and more fight in their game then we did. We are all frustrated with this game."
SHU junior winger
Felix Trudeau led the team with six shots on target but couldn't add to his team-high 11 goals and 23 points.
