SHU Game Notes
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart Men's Hockey Team begins its stretch run in AHA with an interesting weekend matchup at Niagara. The Pioneers (15-9-4 overall), who are in first place with a three-point lead over the Purple Eagles, play Friday at 7 and Saturday at 5 p.m. in games airing live on FloSports.
The Pios, 8-2-2 since the start of December and already past their win total from last year, are coming off a win over Yale and 1-0 loss to ranked UConn in Connecticut Ice at Martire Family Arena on the SHU campus. Against the Bulldogs, eight different players hit the net led by AHA Defenseman of the Week
Mikey Adamson (1-3-4),
Felix Trudeau (1-2-3) and
Marcus Joughin (1-2-3), while
Cullen DeYoung stopped 24 shots. The sophomore goalie, who is partly responsible for SHU getting 22 votes in the latest uscho.com poll, had 16 saves the next night against the squad currently ranked No. 4 in the Pairwise, while Sacred Heart's win streak ended at four.
Niagara (14-10-3), which swept SHU in the 2024 AHA Tournament, has won three straight heading into the weekend, coming off a road sweep of RIT with a combined score of 13-3.
The Purple Eagles are averaging better than three goals and 30 shots per contest, which helped them sweep a hot Bentley team at home earlier this month. They are now 7-3-2 at Dwyer Arena.
