EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -
Carly Greene made 20 saves, including several in the final minutes of the third period, and
Kailey Smith scored the game's only goal as the Sacred Heart women's hockey team earned an important 1-0 NEWHA victory over LIU at the Northwell Health Ice Center.
The victory pushed the Pioneers back into first place in the NEWHA with 39 points.
Savannah Popick and
Sami Bowlby assisted on Smith's game-winning goal, which came at 9:19 of the third. LIU applied heavy pressure in the final minutes, but Greene was up to the challenge.

• The shutout was Greene's third of the season and eighth of her career.
• The goal was the first of the season for Smith.
• The Pioneers' penalty killing unit was 3-for-3.

• After a scoreless first period, the Pioneers had the edge in play in the second period. SHU outshot LIU 13-6 and had two power-play opportunities but couldn't capitalize.
