GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Sacred Heart University softball team suffered a pair of losses on the second day of the Spiro Classic, hosted by UNC Greensboro. SHU fell in the opener 6-0 to Ohio and 5-3 to Drexel to close the action on Saturday.

Of Note:
Game one of today's doubleheader featured a pitchers' duel. SHU led the Bobcats with three hits in the first 3.0 innings to Ohio's two. The Pios put two on the bases in the bottom of the first but could not bring any across as the game went into the fourth tied at 0-0.
In the top of the fourth, the Bobcats took the first lead with a solo home run from Annalia Paol.
The Pioneers spread three hits over the final 4.0 innings but could not bring a run on the scoreboard.
On the other hand, the Bobcats scored five runs over the sixth and seventh innings to take the game 6-0.

Of Note:
For the second straight game, the Pios found themselves in a pitching battle, with the Dragons scoring the only two runs of the first four innings.
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the sixth, SHU tied the score on one swing from
Charlene Davis. With two on with singles, the sophomore catcher blasted a ball to center field to even the game. The long ball is the first in Davis' young career.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers, a pinch-hit homer by Madison Gayle gave the Dragons back the lead in the home half of the inning, as the Pios settled for the 5-3 defeat.
Despite taking the loss,
Sam Kowalski represented herself well in the circle, going 6.0 innings while allowing four earned on just four hits, while striking out a season-high eight batters. She also went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a double.
