WORCESTER, Mass. –
Sal Miccio,
Michael Moreschi, and
Carson Spooner each scored a pair of goals as the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team fell 10-9 to Holy Cross on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers outscored the Crusaders 5-3 in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough as Holy Cross held on for their second win of the season.

Spooner scored the lone goal of the opening quarter that would give SHU the 1-0 advantage heading into the second frame.
Holy Cross scored the first two goals of the second quarter to pull ahead, but Moreschi scored his first of the day to tie the game 2-2 at 11:53. The Crusaders added one more, but
Sal Miccio scored the final goal of the second quarter to send the game into halftime with a 3-3 tie.
Miccio opened the scoring in the third with his second consecutive goal to put SHU up, 4-3. Holy Cross answered with four straight goals to take a 7-4 lead heading into the final quarter.
The home team added one more to get things started in the fourth, but Sacred Heart was not done. Moreschi,
Morgan O'Reilly, and
Jake Ward scored three in a row to pull SHU within one, 8-7, with just over 11 minutes left in the final frame. Both teams traded goals through the remainder of the game and with eight seconds left, Spooner scored his second of the day to pull SHU within one, with hopes of a face off win quick goal to force overtime, but the Pioneers ran out of time, and dropped its third straight.
Senior goalkeeper
Alex Pazienza made 11 saves and picked up six ground balls for the Pioneers. SHU held a 37-33 advantage in shots, and the teams were even at 21 shots on goal.
Luke Romanek and
Nicky Casano combined for nine face off wins for the Pios.
