North Andover, Mass. - The Sacred Heart University men's tennis team edged Merrimack 4-3 in the Pioneers' Northeast Conference (NEC) opener Sunday afternoon.

SHU secured the doubles point after winning at both No. 1 and No. 2. Lefteri Apostolou and Enrique Laennec-Baffrey started things off with a 7-6 win at No. 1. Matyas Vencl and Darius Eftekhar also secured a doubles win in the No. 2 slot, 6-4.

In singles play, Antoine Hernandez defeated Henik Lindeman 7-6, 5-6 and 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. Laennec-Baffrey picked up his second win at No. 4 singles 6-3 and 6-2. At No. 6 singles, Arya Alla secured a 6-4, 4-6 and a 3-0 (incomplete set) win.
