Women's Basketball Falls at Seton Hall

Pryor paced the team with 17 points

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team suffered a 67-46 road loss to BIG EAST foe Seton Hall in its penultimate non-conference game of the season on Monday evening at the Pirates' Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J.

Ny'Ceara Pryor posted a stellar stat line against the Pirates, finishing with a team-leading 17 points, with five rebounds, three assists and three steals. With five rebounds tonight, Pryor surpassed 500 in her illustrious career. Amelia Wood was next on the team with seven points, while Carmen Williams finished with five points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals in a busy night.

Of Note: 
After the Pirates opened the scoring in the first minute of tonight's game, Wood got the visitors on the scoreboard at the 7:43 mark to even the score at 2-2. Seton Hall continued to lead a defensive first quarter, going up by six with 5:52 left before SHU answered with three straight to cut the deficit to 8-5. Unfortunately for the Pioneers, the Pirates added their lead at the end of the quarter, taking a 20-12 deficit into the second following a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Pryor. 

Emma Kirby broke a 1:58 scoreless drought by both teams at the start of the second to set the score at 20-14 for the home team. SHU trailed by six again, 24-18, at the 4:17 mark of the frame following a Kirby layup and a pair of Williams' free throws. The Pirates answered by ending the quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 37-20 advantage into halftime. 

The third quarter was a defensive battle, as both teams combined to score 22 points. The Pirates held a slim 13-9 advantage in the frame to take a 50-29 lead into the fourth. 

The fourth also finished close, with the Pioneers tying Seton Hall with 17 points in the frame. Seton Hall put the finishing touches on a 67-46 win by tying the quarter, improving to a stellar 7-2 on the season.
