NAPERVILLE, Ill.: The Sacred Heart University women's wrestling team demonstrated their resilience as they closed out the 2024 portion of their schedule with a strong performance at the NCC Open, hosted by North Central College, Sunday afternoon inside the Residence Hall/Recreation Center.
 
Out of the 41 teams that competed in the event, the Pioneers finished 13th behind a team score of 51.5 points. North Central took home first with 251 points, followed by Iowa with 148.5 points and McKendree with 148 points for second and third, respectively. 
 
The one-day meet was highlighted by a pair of sixth-place finishes from senior Madison Sandquist at 180 pounds and freshman Cailan Drake at 124 pounds. 
 
In the consolation bracket of 131 pounds, Elleahna Anderson took home first place after winning four straight matches following a first-round loss and a bye.
 
Of Note:

• Sandquist, known for her aggressive style, finished the one-day meet with an overall record of 3-3, with all her wins declared falls. 
• Drake concluded her portion of the bracket with a pair of wins by tech fall in the second round and fall in the third round of the consolation matches. 
• Anderson finished the day with a strong 4-1 record, three of which came by tech falls. 
• Tati Walker also recorded a strong day on the mat for the Pioneers, winning three of her five matches at 117 pounds. 
• As a team, the Pioneers had a successful day on the mat. Aaliyah Payne-Parris, Nohea Moniz, Temi Sanusi, and Madeline Hodges picked up a pair of wins, contributing to the team's overall performance.
