Women’s Basketball Hosts Post in Final Non-Conference Game of Season

The Pioneers and Eagles will square off at 2 p.m. at the Pitt Center

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team is back at the William H. Pitt Center for its final non-conference game of the season on Saturday, Dec. 14, when it hosts Post University for a 2 p.m. showdown.

OPENING TIP
  • The Pioneers welcome Post on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. for their final non-conference game of the season. 
  • SHU will meet the Eagles for the first time in the two teams' histories. 
  • Post joins Coppin State and new MAAC foes Marist, Niagara and Canisius as the five teams SHU will play for the first time this season.
  • Sacred Heart is 2-1 through three home games at the renovated Pitt Center this season, owning wins over Monmouth and Morgan State.
  • The Pios will head into Saturday coming off of a 67-46 road loss to Seton Hall in road action on Monday. 
  • Sacred Heart matched the Pirates in the fourth quarter with 17 points and only dropped the third by four points, 13-9. 
  • Ny'Ceara Pryor led the way for SHU with 17 points in 29 minutes. 
  • She also added five rebounds, three assists and three steals to round out her stat line. 
  • Amelia Wood finished next on the Pioneers with seven points, while Carmen Williams added five points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
LAST TIME OUT
Sacred Heart suffered a hard-fought loss at BIG EAST foe Seton Hall on Monday evening, 67-46. SHU matched the 7-2 Pirates in the fourth quarter with 17 points after suffering a slim 13-9 margin in the third. Ny'Ceara Pryor put together one of her patented strong performances with a team-leading 17 points in 29 minutes. She also added five rebounds, three assists and three steals to round out her stat line. Amelia Wood finished next on the Pioneers with seven points, while Carmen Williams added five points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. 

FIRST MAAC POW NOD 
On Monday, Pryor became the first Pioneer to be tabbed as the MAAC Player of the Week. The conference recognized the junior guard for her outstanding showing in SHU's win over Morgan State at the Pitt Center. Pryor is no stranger to Player of the Week awards, as she won the honor a whopping 10 times last season in the NEC, the most in the conference's history.

SCOUTING POST
  • The Eagles head into Saturday with a 1-7 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). 
  • Post most recently dropped a 78-59 decision to AIC on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at home in Waterbury, Conn.
  • First year guard Jasmine Day-Cox has been a Swiss Army Knife for the Eagles in her debut season, as she paces the team in rebounds (5.8) and steals (3.5) per game and is second with 1.9 assists per game. 
  • Day-Cox's steals stats are some of the best in Division II as she ranks 11th in the country in steals per game and 21st in total steals (28).
  • Post has employed a balanced offensive approach with three players averaging between 11.0 and 8.8 points per game. 
  • Naj White leads the way at 11.0 points, while Hannah Finnerty sits at 9.0 and Alyssa Rossignol is at 8.8. 
  • Finnerty and Rossignol are both Division I transfers from MAAC programs Siena and Niagara, respectively.

  • Saturday will mark the first-ever meeting between the Pioneers and Eagles.
