STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University swim and dive team defeated Stony Brook on the road this afternoon, 173-127.
Senior
Lola Barrett secured her second ever NCAA Zone qualifying score in the 3M with her winning performance of 283.05. Barrett also finished second in the 1M with a score of 247.30.
First year
Sinclair Yadao secured second in the 3M with a score of 265.05 and third in the 1M with a score of 243.90.
On the swimming side of things, the Pioneers had a combined effort for the win.
The Pios started off hot with a win in the 200-medley relay consisting of
Kristen Baker,
Rosemery Nieto,
Melanie Sanchez and
Emma Haas in a time of 1:51.31.
Sophomore
Sophia Velleco paced the Pios in the 1000-freestyle, securing the win in a time of 10:48.14. She also took second in the 100-freestyle and 500-freestyle in 53.95 and 5:22.25.
SHU went one-and-two in the 100-backstroke as Baker secured first in 1:00.34 and
Meghan Hammarlund went second in 1:00.71.
Senior Nieto dominated in the 100-breaststroke in a time of 1:08.78. She also led the Pioneers in the 200 securing second place in 2:29.42.
Pios swept the 200-butterfly as Sanchez led SHU in first with a time of 2:12.40.
Emma Chambers was behind her in 2:16.51 and
Abby Hernandez was in third with a time of 2:18.51.
Hammarlund paced SHU in the 200-backstroke securing the win with a time of 2:11.77.
SHU swept again in the 200 IM as
Daniella Palamaro secured first, Chambers tabbed second and
Meredith Lubelczyk secured third.

The Pios are off next weekend and return November 9
th at Siena for a double dual with Rider at noon.
