NORTH EASTON, Mass. – The Sacred Heart University softball team completed a sweep of Stonehill in Northeast Conference play on Sunday by winning both ends of a road doubleheader this afternoon. The Pioneers took game one by a 12-4 final score before winning game two 10-0 in six innings.

Of Note:
Both starting pitchers combined to keep the opener tied at 0-0 after 2.0 innings until the Pios opened the scoring in a big way in the top of the third.
Following two quick outs to start the third,
Victoria LoPinto,
Jenna Mowad, and
Amy Petrovich each worked a walk to load the bases for
Carly Koltko. The sophomore answered with her second homer in as many days to put SHU up 4-0 with a grand slam.
After the Skyhawks tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the third, the Pioneers quickly retaliated with five runs in the top of the fourth inning. A single and a walk preceded two straight errors by the Skyhawks, leading to runs on both misplays.
Alyssa Gonzalez then plated two runs with a double to left field, bringing home Petrovich and Mowad. The final run of the frame was scored on another error in the next at-bat to give SHU a 9-4 lead.
The Pioneers put the finishing touches on their doubleheader-opening victory with one run in the sixth and two in the seventh. Petrovich capped Sacred Heart's dominant win with a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh to set the final score at 12-4.

Sam Kowalski picked up the victory after allowing no earned runs over 4.0 innings of work to improve to 5-8 this season.
Liv Vadas pitched the final 3.0 innings and struck out one without giving up a run.

Of Note:
For the second consecutive contest, the Pioneers opened game two's scoring with for runs in the top of the third inning. With the bases loaded, Gonzalez brought the first two runs across with a two-RBI single to left center. Back-to-back RBI singles from
Nicole Henke and
Emily Carroll plated the next two runs to make it a 4-0 SHU lead.
The Pios added to their advantage with two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Two walks and a single loaded the bases before a passed ball allowed
Rachael Kohler to score from third. Another walk loaded the bases again, but an out at home plate stopped one run from scoring. An error finally brought the second run in to give SHU a 6-0 advantage.
Grace Saad extended the Pios' lead in the fifth with her second homer of the season to make it a 7-0 game.
Sacred Heart reached double digits for the third game of the series after a three-run sixth inning. Koltko capped off her impressive series with a two-run home run to put SHU up 9-0. Koltko finished the weekend with five runs scored, seven RBI, and three homers, and is riding a career-best 10-game hit streak. Gonzalez stepped to the plate next and made it back-to-back SHU bombs to seal the Pios' 10-0 win.
Emily Heath pitched all 6.0 innings for Sacred Heart, earning her third victory of the season by allowing just two hits and no runs.

The Pios will next play three games at Central Connecticut State on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 7-8. The opening tilt of the series is slated to start at 1 p.m. on Friday.
