Of Note:
The opening game of today's twin bill started with a duel between starting pitchers, as SHU's
Emily Heath and Siena's Ava Fitzmaurice didn't allow a run until the fourth inning.
The game's opening run came in the top of the fourth following a double from the Saints' Shannon Bonewit. Siena put two more on before the end of the inning, but Heath worked out of the jam by inducing an inning-ending groundout with the bases loaded.
The Pios threatened in the bottom of the fifth by putting two on with no outs, but Fitzmaurice answered by tallying back-to-back strikeouts before ending the inning with a groundout.
Siena added an insurance run in the top of the sixth with a homer that ended the day for Heath.
Carlie Williams entered in relief and got out of the sixth without any more damage before tossing a three-up, three-down seventh.
Unfortunately for the Pios, they could not tie the game in the seventh, sealing a 2-0 win for the Saints.
Game 2: SC 3, SHU 0
Pitchers:
Liv Vadas (SHU) - (L, 7.0 innings pitched, 3 earned runs, 1 strikeout, 2-5 record)
Alissa Eimont (SC) - (W, 7.0 innings pitched, 0 earned runs, 4 strikeouts, 3-3 record)
Top Performers:
Jenna Mowad (SHU) – 1-2, 2 walks
Samantha Kostek (SHU) – 1-2, 1 walk
Of Note:
Game two this afternoon was highlighted by a dominant pitching performance from
Liv Vadas. The senior righty was perfect through the first 5.0 innings with one strikeout.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers, Siena's Alissa Eimont also kept the home team off the scoreboard for the first 5.0 frames to send the game into the sixth tied 0-0.
A leadoff single by the Saints broke up Vadas' bid for a perfect game and led to the game's only runs. Following two singles in the first three batters, a triple by Isabella Pardo gave the Saints a 2-0 advantage. An RBI single in the next at-bat plated the third run. A throw-out by
Amy Petrovich in left field saved one more run, while Vadas ended the frame with a groundout.
A three-run lead proved enough for Eimont, as she allowed one base runner over the sixth and seventh innings to clinch the complete-game victory.
