Sacred Heart kept Saint Francis on its toes in the first set in a 25-21 loss. Ryan Benscoter notched a service ace, and Mark Berry contested SFU with a block and five kills in the set, but SHU couldn't find enough steam after scoring four of six points to end the first.
Saint Francis got off to an 8-4 start in the second set before three kills from Berry, one from Tyler Kwinta, and service aces from Berry and Ryan Mucherino closed it 16-14. SFU would end the second set on a 9-3 run after out-hitting the Pioneers .500 to .074 on 10 kills to eight.
After SFU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third, Dylan McClung evened things up with a kill before forcing an attack error. SFU then answered back with a 6-3 run. Two more Saint Francis errors and another McClung kill tied it back out at 8-8 before SFU scored six consecutive points and seven of eight to jump out 15-9 over the Pioneers. SFU won the set 25-18, but not before two kills from Carlos Santa Cruz and kills from Kwinta as well Berry, who chipped in another service ace before the match was set in stone.
