Another McGuire layup would bring the Pios within four, 17-13, at 11:29, but UAlbany answered and pulled ahead to take a 21-13 edge. At 7:48, the Great Danes made a three-pointer to extend the lead to 11, but it didn't take too long for Carpenter to drain a three that cut the SHU deficit to six at 6:50 in the half.

With 2:26 on the clock, UAlbany took a 13-point lead but thanks to a trey from Carpenter and a Sobel dunk, SHU trailed by seven, 45-38 at halftime.

McGuire knocked down a three to open the second half to bring SHU within four, 45-41. With a 47-41 lead, Mike Sixsmith and Sobel combined for the Pioneer's next four points, cutting the Pioneer's deficit to three, 47-44 at 17:56.

The Great Danes went on a 10-0 run to take a 60-46 lead at 14:27 in the second half, but the Pioneers answered, again. Raymond Espinal-Guzman made a dunk that sparked a 6-0 run to pull SHU within eight, 60-52. However, UAlbany stopped the Pioneers' momentum as the Great Danes eventually took a 19-point lead with 6:35 left in the game.

SHU was able to fight and cut the deficit to 11 with 2:40 left, but UAlbany jumped back up to increase their lead.

McGee made a layup with 43 seconds left in the game for his 1,000th career point and the 93-79 final.
