Pios Head to LIU for Non-Conference Tilt on Sunday

SHU and Sharks to meet for the first time

11/3/2023 9:33:00 AM

Game 8
Sacred Heart at Long Island University
Sunday, November 5 - 7 p.m.
Northwell Health Ice Center - East Meadow, N.Y.
Live on SNY / ESPN+

NEW YORK STATE OF MIND
It's off to Billy Joel's neck of the woods on Sunday night, some three hours east of Allentown, as the Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team squares off with Long Island University in a non-conference tilt. The Pios and Sharks will have to avoid the Temptation of letting the Pressure build up, as they have to wait all day, Until the Night, for a rare 7 p.m. start on a Sunday. Say Goodbye to Hollywood, because this one is live on SNY in the tri-state area, so make sure you don't go Sleeping With the Television On until after the final buzzer.

TELL HER ABOUT IT ("it" is SHU's last game)
There were no Surprises on Tuesday night, and it was fairly Easy Money for the Pioneers, who had no problem Keeping the Faith in a 6-1 romp over Army at Martire Family Arena in a midweek contest. Captain Jack-- err, Braeden Tuck used This Night to pick up his 100th career point with an early assist. Big Shot Mark Cheremeta finished with three assists on the night, but may have said "I Don't Want to Be Alone", as Mikey Adamson matched him with three helpers too. With 10 different SHU skaters finding the scoresheet on Tuesday, goaltender Chase Clark figured "When in Rome" and dished out an assist of his own, the first of his career. Cole Galata picked up a Souvenir as well, with a third-period assist for his first collegiate point.

THIS IS THE TIME (to scout the opposition)
LIU, which currently plays in No Man's Land without a conference to call home, didn't exactly find the River of Dreams to start the season, as the team dropped its first three and five of its first six. Though wins were Sometimes a Fantasy early on, the Sharks will not go Two Thousand Years without one, as they bounced back from the rough start with a 4-0 win against Saint Anselm on Saturday and a 4-2 victory at Stonehill on Monday to head into Sunday night winners of two straight. Remy Parker (7-2-9) and Josh Zary (4-5-9) lead the way with nine points apiece for the Sharks. No word on if Jack Quinn is an Angry Young Man, but he's definitely not An Innocent Man, as he leads LIU in penalty minutes, with 10.

THE STRANGER
These two teams will break their Code of Silence with each other, as Sunday's contest marks the first ever meeting in men's ice hockey between Sacred Heart and Long Island University, two schools which have been longtime Northeast Conference counterparts in a number of sports and square off as New England Women's Hockey Alliance foes on the women's side. LIU's program is in just its fourth season of existence, having taken the ice for the first time in 2020-21. The Pios will hope to Get it Right the First Time on Sunday against the Sharks and we hope it won't be The Longest Time until they meet again.

TOMORROW IS TODAY
The Pios will be Movin' Out of Long Island right after the game and are immediately into preparations for next weekend's Atlantic Hockey series against Canisius. Next week's games will not be in Vienna, nor Leningrad, nor even Zanzibar, but right back home, in A Room of Our Own, the Martire Family Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. on both Oct. 10-11 against the Golden Griffins. Everybody has a Dream, and if yours is tickets to the games, you can get them on Ticketmaster.
