FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey was back in Martire Family Arena Friday afternoon, beating Post University 3-2. The Pioneers go to 12-13-1 and 9-7-1 in NEWHA while Post goes to 3-21- and 3-13-1 in NEWHA.
The Eagles found the back of the net merely two minutes into the game on an even strength goal. Halfway through the second, the Eagles scored again to go up 2-0. The Pioneers answered with three goals within two minutes off the sticks of
Julianna Koman,
Rachael DeLong and
Sydney Antonakis.
"There was some tension in the locker room with us being down and we were talking about what we could be doing better," game winning goal scorer
Sydney Antonakis said. "My line got on the ice and I blocked a shot and got a breakaway and remember thinking 'gotta do something here' and I found the back of the net."
Carly Greene was between the posts today, saving 20 of 22 shots.
"I'm happy we came from behind," head coach Tom O'Malley said. "Post played us very well today and they view us as an in-season playoff game each time we face off so it was good to see a hard earned come from behind victory."
