Pioneers Fall Twice at UCI Invitational

Anderson just misses career-high with 10 kills.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. –  The points down the stretch didn't go the Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team's way on day one of the UC Irvine Invitational. The Pioneers started the day with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21) loss to Dartmouth then fell to the host Anteaters, 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 26-24) to close out Friday.

Of Note:
Sacred Heart was down early in set one to Dartmouth and trailed 21-19. A Sarah Ciszek kill ignited a 5-0 run to give SHU the lead as it took the opening set.
 
The Big Green was able to win the close points down the stretch in the second, third and fourth sets to take the match. Dartmouth outhit the Pioneers .214-to-.186 and limited SHU to .077 in the fourth set.
 
Outside hitter Camryn Luginbuhl recorded a 13-kill, 16-dig double-double. Reghan Palanchi was next with 11 winners.
 
After a slow start to the first set against UCI, the Pioneers closed to 19-18 in set two on a block by Ciszek and Kate Anderson. A Ciszek kill made it 23-21 before the Anteaters finished the set.
 
SHU grabbed a 22-20 lead in set three thanks to a Luginbuhl kill. Out of a time out, the hosts won three-straight points to take the lead. Another Ciszek kill held off match point, but a SHU error on match point gave Irvine the win.
 
Just missing her career-high by one kill was Anderson as she notched a team-high 10 winners. Four different players had six or more kills.
 
The Anteater had a .326-to-.136 hitting advantage thanks to 24 SHU hitting errors. UC Irvine also had 10 blocks to SHU's three.
